Be My Guest

by Betty Stoddard Muncie

Betty Stoddard MuncieA Word From God

The phone range and a little girl said, “Can I talk to you for just a minute?”

Of Course, I said “yes,” so she continued.

continued. “I can't come to see you today because of the snow, but I can read you something” and read she did, a piece from the bible.

“Isn't that beautiful?” she breathed.

“Yes, it is,” I answered, “but I'm not on your regular list.”

“Well, can't you hear a word from the bible anyway?”

“Of course I can and thank you very much.”

“That's alright, good buy now.”

“Who was that?” Dick asked. I thought for a minute and then answered. “I think it was a word from God.” Actually, I believe she was from the Mormon Church, but you have to admit it was certainly a one of a kind call.

The Tree Sang “Merry Christmas”

Please forgive me but I want to go back to Christmas for a minute. My friend from Sacramento, Ed, did something quite spectacular this holiday. His daughter was married this past year and little silver bells played a part in the décor at the ceremony. Ed gathered all the discarded silver bells and used them to decorate his Christmas tree. There must have been 100 little silver bells. Whenever we gave it a little touch, we were surrounded by soft delightful tinker bells.

Have You Tried Painting?

You might not think you're talented but you never know until you try. Take a canvas, oil or pastel paint, go in the yard and copy what you see. Or call the local senior center and find out when they offer painting classes. (The phone number of the Washoe County Senior Center in Reno is 328-2575.) That's how many of us get started. You'll be surprised if someone one day says, “Did you paint that? It's great!” Boy, it is a great feeling of accomplishment.

Groom Your Pets

I recently had a conversation with a girl who was complaining about the hair from her cat who shedded all over the living room. She had never had her cat professionally groomed. This is a must. You don't need the most expensive groomer, just fine one that loves animals and won't charge you too much. Do your cat a favor. I have Sophie bathed and brushed every two or three months. She loves it.
